Autumn is here! And so begins my favorite season of the year. Although the Ozarks received many days of high and uncomfortable temperatures this summer, it appears those days are over with lower temps in the mid 80s for now. Soon the leaves will be changing and the big browns will begin the yearly feeding frenzy to put on weight in anticipation of the spawn.

That being said, now is the time to get in on the action. Currently both lakes are above power pool and the COE continues to release flows to purge the excess levels to reach power pool. Generation remains consistent on both tail waters and should remain this way through mid September. At that point we may see an extended period of minimum flows assuming the average rain fall this year is not overwhelming.

September through potentially early December are months known to produce big browns by way of hoppers assuming the flows include above average water clarity. The cooler temps during the day entice trophy browns to the surface for an easy protein feed given the right presentation. Hoppers are best during early mornings with fog coverĀ  and late afternoons in sunny skies. The mid day bite with hoppers can be spontaneous but very soon that will change to an all day foam hopper bite.

Only a few open guide dates remain for October while I do have openings in late September, November, and December. I anticipate a fantastic fall season and hope you consider booking a day or three this year. Now’s a great time to get out the calendar and make plans!
