Went down to Baptist Camp yesterday morning for a few hours of fishing. Hiked down the service road to the “tire” and started fishing the log. Immediately got into two rainbows, normal size. Both caught on an egg pattern (orange size 10 with a beadhead). Later, I decided that I’m sick and tired of fishing with egg patterns, so I switched so that I could practice with a dry-dropper. I am so glad I did. I caught 4 browns on a size 14 Royal Wolf. Nothing was caught on my droppers, and I switched those all day long. However, the Wolf did great for the few hours I fished there. I saw (spooked) some PIGS.

Conditions: intermittent sunshine, 78 degrees, 114 CFS, lots of people for a Monday, water slightly off color.

Does anyone think that getting there early is required to have a good day of fishing? I was there at sunrise and did no better than I normally do getting there at noon. I assume the brown bite is better in early/late daylight hours. But I was surprised I didn’t do better than about 5-6 fish in about 3 1/2 hours.
