The river has cleared up a lot since last Friday’s trip.  Too me it’s the clearest it’s been since like September.

Hickory creek report

Another great day in the Ozarks. It was really windy & chilly on the water today. We managed to catch 8 bass, but missed 15 more bites. Even had fish chasing the lure to the boat, striking at the bait as I was lifting it out of the water. We’re a couple weeks of warm weather away from these bass getting real easy to catch. We caught fish on Ned rigs around the bluff walls & crankbaits in the channel swings & flats.
Not too bad for a Sunday.

water 54 degrees & stained

With the spring upon us, and the whites and walleye moving into the rivers, bass stagging for the spawn, I thought I’d stop chasing  the stripers and go for the other  species.  Yesterday I had so much fun doing some casting for bass that I figured I’d try it again today.  But guess who showed up, yup u got it, Mrs. striped bass!!! I told myself I wouldn’t chase them n e more and I haven’t the last 4-5 trips,  but today the found me lol.  read more…

Crappie bite…

Posted by Phil Lilley on December 21st, 2016

Was on fire today!  Fished from 10:30-1:30 and had 30 keepers and probably 40-50 little guys. Most came from the HSB area. Brush piles and lay downs were the key..color of jig didn’t matter. Water temp in the mid 40’s to 50. Get on the right pile and it was every cast!

12-4 striper

Took a friend fishing with me today to go after some striper.  Was persistent with the cast net thanks to Dan and netted about 2 dozen gizzard shad. I lost  3 stripers, and caught 3 good size largemouth.  He lost a few stripers also but brought in a small 8-10 pounder and then caught this one about 20 lbs. It was his biggest striper ever and made our day.  He caught it on one of his bass baitcasters so it took a little while.  Had to spend some time reviving it but was released when it was spunky.  He didn’t keep the smaller one either because he is allergic to eating fish.
